Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Onyx website at onyx-tech.ai: the waitlist form and partner referral links. It is deliberately narrow, and says plainly what it does not cover.
What this covers, and what it does not
This page is about onyx-tech.ai: the marketing site you are reading now. There are two things here that involve your information: the waitlist form, and the referral links our partners hand out. That is the whole of it.
If you are an Onyx customer, the information inside the app (your contacts, quotes, jobs, photos, call recordings and connected mailbox) is governed by a separate and much longer policy:
Using the Onyx app? See the product privacy policy at os.onyx-tech.ai/privacy. It covers customer data, call recording, photo storage, connected mailboxes, and the processors involved.
We keep the two apart on purpose. One policy trying to describe both a brochure site and a CRM ends up vague about each.
Who we are
Onyx is built and operated by Onyx Technologies in Australia. We are the data controller for the information described on this page. To reach us about anything here, email support@onyx-tech.ai.
The waitlist form
If you ask to join the waitlist, the form collects four things, all of which you type in yourself:
| What | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Your name | So we address you properly when we reply. |
| Business name | To understand what kind of contractor is asking. |
| Phone number | So we can call you when a place opens up. |
| Email address | To send your invitation and reply to you. |
We use these to contact you about Onyx and to gauge demand. We do not sell them, and we do not send them to advertisers. If a partner referred you, the referral code below is submitted alongside them so that partner gets credit.
Where the form sends them
Submitting the form sends those four fields to two places:
- A Google Sheet, through Google Apps Script. This is our waitlist. Google acts as our processor and stores the data on our behalf.
- Onyx itself, at os.onyx-tech.ai, which records that a signup happened and which partner referred it.
Google may process this outside Australia. By submitting the form you consent to that transfer.
Partner referral links
Our partners hand out links like os.onyx-tech.ai/r/name. Following one does two things.
First, the click is counted: the total only, never who you are. A partner needs to know how many people they sent in order to make sense of how many signed up.
Second, the partner's code is stored in your browser using
localStorage, so that if you come back later and join the waitlist, the partner
who introduced you still gets credit.
| What is stored | The partner's referral code and the date you arrived. Nothing else. |
| How long | 90 days, then it is ignored and replaced. |
| Where | In your own browser. It is not a tracking cookie and is not shared with any ad network. |
| First touch | The first partner who sent you keeps the credit, not the most recent. |
You can clear it any time by clearing site data for onyx-tech.ai in your browser. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.
Partners never see your contact details. A partner's stats page shows business names and subscription status so they can check their commission, never a referred person's name, email or phone number.
What we do not do
- No advertising or marketing trackers, and no third-party analytics profiling you across sites.
- No selling, renting or trading your details.
- No automated decisions that affect you.
- We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Onyx is a tool for businesses.
How long we keep it
Waitlist entries are kept until you become a customer or ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. Referral click counts are aggregate numbers with nothing personal in them and are kept as long as the partner programme runs.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, or delete it. Email support@onyx-tech.ai and we will action it within 30 days, usually much sooner, because for this site it means removing a row from a spreadsheet.
If you think we have mishandled your information and we have not resolved it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Security
This site is served over HTTPS. The waitlist is held in Google Workspace with access limited to the people at Onyx who need it. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise, but we hold very little here, which is the best protection available.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects people already on the waitlist, we will email them rather than rely on them re-reading this page.
